
THE first global plan to tackle the demon drink has been backed by almost every country in the world.
On 21 May, the World 91色情片 Organization鈥檚 193 member states via a strategy hashed out over the last two years.
This provides a list of suggested actions and laws for combating alcohol abuse, which accounts for 2.5 million deaths a year worldwide. Much of the impetus for the plan comes from a growing acceptance that heavy drinkers don鈥檛 just wreck their own health but also harm others, for example, through violence or car accidents 鈥 dubbed 鈥減assive drinking鈥.

Suggestions include increasing the price of alcoholic drinks and limiting their availability. However, the emphasis on such measures has been reduced compared with a draft circulated last year, even though there is evidence to suggest that price restrictions are an effective way to drive down consumption.
Unsurprisingly, the drinks industry vehemently opposes enforced price hikes.
