El Niño

“El Niño” – the boy – describes a warm phase in the tropical Pacific that releases huge volumes of heat from the ocean into the atmosphere every 2-7 years. El Niño is predicted to be particularly disruptive in 2026 and 2027, raising global temperatures and triggering extreme weather events around the world. Together El Niño and its inverse pattern, La Niña, form the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle.
