At least one of the five research establishments being scrutinised by
the Department of Trade and Industry has escaped privatisation. The National
Weights and Measures Laboratory in Teddington will continue as a government
laboratory, the department says. The DTI expects to make decisions on the
future ownership of the other four centres soon.
