Few things annoy the music industry more than people posting MP3 music files on the Internet (GB 2371898) for others to download for free. Now Stom C&C of New York has come up with a ruse to annoy the freeloaders.
Stom鈥檚 software mimics an online music fan, searching for MP3 files on the Net, downloading as many as possible, and joining the online file-swapping communities that offer them. After each download, Stom鈥檚 server encrypts the music so that it can only be played by people who have paid a fee. The idea is that wasting time downloading these encrypted files will remind people that the music is copyrighted, and put them off freeloading. Some hope.
