Researchers at Keio University in Tokyo have developed a program that lets
you 鈥渆volve鈥 your own typeface. The software treats various font
characteristics, such as line thickness or degree of slant, like chromosomes.
The program generates a population of candidate fonts from which you choose your
two favourites. Their chromosomes are 鈥渕ated鈥 to produce a new population which
is randomly mutated. You then choose your favourite two again, and continue with
the evolution until you鈥檙e happy with the font.
