If somebody jogs past you making a sound like a blaring horn or a roaring
engine, blame BBC International of Boca Raton, Florida. The company is patenting
a pair of trainers with a loudspeaker fitted in the sole (GB 2352551). A
hand-held remote control lets you choose from a selection of dramatic
sounds—including a charming pre-recorded message saying: “Outta my way!”
You can protect the sneaky sneakers against theft with the same device. You
prime the alarm before going for a swim, say, and if anyone tries to steal them,
a motion sensor triggers a scream and cries of “I am being stolen!”
