Decorative Christmas candles are expensive to make and the fancy transfers
stuck to the candle鈥檚 surface can catch fire. Now Roy Donaldson and Sarah
Donaldson of Dublin think they have the perfect solution (GB 2349890). A
decorative design is printed onto a thin sheet of hydrocarbon resin, backed with
adhesive. The candle鈥檚 surface is then coated with a mixture of varnish and
microfine ceramic dust. The transfer is soaked in water and wrapped around the
candle. The ceramic dust makes the transfer melt uniformly, without bursting
into flames.
