Dark and stormy nights needn’t be so daunting in future, thanks to a Japanese
company that has launched a £40 umbrella with a light inside it to
illuminate your way. The umbrella is transparent, so even when it is furled up
on a dark night the light still shines through, illuminating the path ahead. The
akari—meaning “light”—umbrella is powered by two small
batteries, says the maker, Thankyo Umbrella Industries of Osaka.
