Labels on the impotence drug Viagra will in future carry stronger safety
warnings, following at least 130 deaths among men in the US taking the drug.
Although the deaths haven鈥檛 been blamed on the drug, the US Food and Drug
Administration says the new label will stress that Viagra鈥檚 safety hasn鈥檛 been
studied in men with heart problems. The new label also lists rare side effects
not seen in clinical trials, including painful, prolonged erections of more than
four hours鈥 duration and temporary vision loss. Pfizer, the drug鈥檚 manufacturer,
says that amendments to labels are routine for new drugs.
