Police and security services around the world are getting excited about the
idea of a 鈥渨earable鈥 computer. The machines would be made up of components that
are woven into a jacket, spreading the load over the wearer鈥檚 body. Now Via, an
American company, claims that a similar system could be used by the rest of us
(WO 98/20403). Each component module is made in two parts, which clamp over a
flat, flexible ribbon cable. The cable is threaded through the garment to
connect the various modules, allowing the computer to be tailored to fit an
individual鈥檚 clothing.
