It鈥檚 nice to know when your lager is nicely cold, as a recently patented
special beer mat tells you. But it can be essential to know the temperature of
the water in your bath or sink. Advanced Design Engineering of Regent Street in
London is patenting a bath or sink plug which warns when water is too hot and
likely to scald (GB 2 318 289). The plug has embedded patches of liquid crystal
which change colour with temperature. The plug goes red if it鈥檚 too hot, blue
for too cold, and green for just right.
