Ambitious gardeners may want to try their hand at topiary—the ancient
art of cutting trees and shrubs into different shapes. Topiary goes back to the
days of the Roman Empire. Pliny the Younger described his villa in Tuscany as
being surrounded by a box hedge “adorned with the representation of divers
