If you’re one of the growing number of people guzzling vitamin C pills,
vitamin E capsules and combined antioxidant tablets in an attempt to ward off
heart disease, you could be wasting your time, experts warn in the new National
Heart Forum report Preventing Coronary Heart Disease (The Stationery Office,
£19.99, ISBN 0 11322 001 4). The only dead-cert help for your heart in
your diet comes from fresh fruit and vegetables, they say. Preferably at least
five portions a day—and preferably not chocolate-flavoured carrots.
