NORWAY鈥檚 former prime minister, Gro Harlem Brundtland, says she is
prepared to stand in elections for the WHO鈥檚 next director-general. Brundtland
is seen by many WHO staff and some governments as the ideal person to rescue the
troubled organisation.
The votes of developing countries, which make up most of the WHO鈥檚 member
states, will decide whether or not Brundtland gets the job. Elections will be
held next January.
