The political parties are also canvassing for the nerd vote on the Internet.
The Conservative site (http://www.conservative-party.org.uk/index.html) has a
signed message from Major claiming that “it was not the state that created the
Internet”—as though the American military had nothing to do with it.
Labour’s site (www.labour.org.uk) sports the logo “newLabour newBritain” in a
typeface that looks suspiciously like the old New Scientistlogo.
Meanwhile, the Libdems (www.libdems.org.uk) have the puzzling slogan: “Think you
can do better?” But perhaps the best fun is to be had among the also-rans. The
New Communist Party of Britain’s Web page (www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/2853)
has the message: “Still under constant construction.”
