The price of condoms in French pharmacies is set to fall, following an
agreement reached last week between junior health minister Philippe
Douste-Blazy and the Federation of Pharmaceutical Trade Unions. Currently
condoms are sold in pharmacies at 4 francs each (about 50 pence). Under the
new deal, the price will tumble to 1 franc. 鈥業t is unacceptable to think
that a young person can鈥檛 have a condom because of its cost,鈥� said
Douste-Blazy. The move was welcomed by AIDS awareness groups.
